The Mural Arts in Philadelphia is committed to promoting research on and development of public-involved art strategies. Founded in 2017 as an initiative of Mural Arts Philadelphia, the Institute's strategy is focused around connection: building networks, developing relationships, and convening artists, community, together with partners to work together around participatory public art practices.

The Mural Arts in Philadelphia is an attempt to improve the cities artists, arts organizations, cultural institutions, municipal governments, as well a expose public art to the region. The Mural Arts Institute is supported by The JPBFoundation, The Kresge Foundation, and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
