Philadelphia, PA The Schmitter Sandwich at McNally’s Tavern in Chestnut Hill - McNally’s Tavern is a Chestnut Hill landmark near the top of Germantown Avenue for more than 80 years. The tavern is well-known for Philadelphia's iconic sandwiches, the "Schmitter," a version of a Philly cheesesteak.

The Schmitter incorporates the time-honored grilled steak, fried onions, melted cheese, added grilled salami, grilled tomatoes, and a special sauce on top of a toasted Kaiser rather than a traditional long roll. Although the combo might seem unusual, it’s famous for one reason — it’s delicious.
