Sparkling Apple Crumble: A Deliciously Easy Dessert

This recipe for Sparkling Apple Crumble offers a delightful twist on a classic dessert, using Crisp Apple Sparkling Ice for added flavor and a touch of fizz.

Yields: 6 servings Prep time: 20 minutes Chill time: 30 minutes Cook time: 23-28 minutes

Ingredients:

For the Crumble:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ⅔ cup brown sugar
  • One stick (½ cup) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes

For the Apples:

  • ¾ cup Crisp Apple Sparkling Ice
  • Eight red apples (Gala or Fuji preferred), cored and cubed
  • Three tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1½ tablespoons cornstarch

Equipment:

  • Mixing bowls
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Wire rack
  • Medium saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Six small ramekins or an 8-inch square baking dish

Instructions:

Make the Crumble:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and brown sugar.
  2. Use your hands or a pastry blender to cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized chunks.
  3. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for 30 minutes to allow the butter to firm up.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the crumble mixture evenly.
  6. Bake for 12-18 minutes or until lightly golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and cool the baking sheet on a wire rack.

Prepare the Apples:

  1. Core and cube the apples. To prevent browning, place the cubed apples in a large bowl of cold water.
  2. Whisk together the cornstarch and Sparkling Ice in a small mixing bowl until smooth. Set aside.
  3. In a medium saucepan, melt two tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
  4. Drain the apples and add them to the saucepan along with the cinnamon and salt. Sauté for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Pour the Sparkling Ice and cornstarch mixture into the saucepan, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
  6. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce has thickened slightly.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in the remaining one tablespoon of butter.

Assemble and Serve:

  1. Break the cooled crumble into desired-sized pieces.
  2. Spoon the warm apple mixture into six individual ramekins or an 8-inch square baking dish.
  3. Top generously with the crumble.
  4. Serve immediately while the apples are warm, and the crumble is crisp.

Tips and Variations:

  • Add a pinch of nutmeg or allspice to the apples for extra flavor.
  • Use different varieties of apples for a unique taste. Honeycrisp or Granny Smith apples also work well.
  • Add a handful of chopped nuts (such as pecans or walnuts) to the crumble for extra crunch.
  • Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra indulgent treat.
