PHILADELPHIA - Every major American city claims a superior version of the submarine sandwich, whether it’s a grinder, a hero, a po'boy, or a sub. Yet, in the fierce, food-proud metropolis of Philadelphia, you will rarely, if ever, hear a local order a "sub." Philadelphia is the only major city where this long, crusty roll piled high with meats, cheeses, and toppings is almost exclusively known as a Hoagie.
