Philadelphia, PA - AKA President Larry Korman and High Street (HSHG) Co-Owner Ellen Yin are thrilled to announce the spring debut of a.vin, a special limited-edition Chardonnay crafted in collaboration with Karamoor Estate Wines of Montgomery County. Also See.. AKA Rittenhouse Square
The wine will debut at a.kitchen on Thursday, March 23 at 5:30 p.m. during Philly Wine Week, with a benefit happy hour featuring a first taste of the wine, a meet-and-greet with the winemaker, complimentary hors d’oeuvres, and a bottle of the new wine to take home. The event is $100 per person, and tickets are available online (click to purchase). Proceeds from the event, along with $25 from every bottle sold in the future, will be donated to the non-profit Institute for Functional Restoration at Case Western Reserve University, benefiting spinal cord research with the aim of supporting the ongoing rehabilitation of HSHG Chef and Co-Owner Eli Kulp.
“Larry had the idea to approach his neighbors, the award-winning winemakers at Karamoor Estate, about this wine. We immediately thought it was a terrific project,” says Yin. “We’re excited to bring a great local wine to our guests, and even more excited to support the incredible research of the Institute for Functional Restoration.” Also See.. Only 500 bottles of a.vin are available in this limited release. The wine, which will sell for $75 a bottle, is crafted from100% estate-grown grapes, which winemaker Kevin Robinson reports ripened happily thanks to a very warm summer and were harvested in peak condition ahead of a lengthy spell of mid-September rain. The wine was fermented in 50% French oak barrels and 50% stainless steel, with some malolactic fermentation to lend plush body without overwhelming the bright, balanced finish. Aromas of Bartlett pear complement jasmine and lemongrass notes for a wine that could easily be mistaken for Chablis despite its humble Pennsylvania provenance.
This is a.kitchen’s second signature fermented product; they also serve an exclusive vodka, a.vod. The restaurant has twice been recognized among Wine Enthusiast’s Top 100 Wine Restaurants in America, and is always looking for high-quality wines to feature. Following the Wine Week happy hour, bottles of a.vin will be available at AKA residences / hotels and in HSHG’s sister restaurants, Fork and High Street on Market.
