1. Black Moshannon State Park

Black Moshannon State Park protects an expansive 3,394-acre forest and wetland ecosystem in central Pennsylvania and is surrounded by over 43,000 acres of Moshannon State Forest to offer visitors a remote camping experience in all seasons.

At Black Moshannon State Park, visitors can indulge in various outdoor activities, from hiking and fishing to boating and boat tours. There's something here for everyone at any point on their adventure journey - a leisurely family stroll or an intense challenge!

2. Bald Eagle State Park

This 5,900-acre park surrounding Foster Joseph Sayers Reservoir lies in Howard, Center County, with forests, fields, and wetlands - perfect for boating, fishing, swimming, kayaking, and hiking! It also serves as a home for fishing derbies!

Bald Eagle State Park is an increasingly popular vacation and weekend getaway spot. Offering lodging at the Nature Inn and rustic and modern camping, cabins, yurts, and more, Bald Eagle offers something to satisfy almost every type of visitor!



Winter allows visitors to cross-country ski, snowshoe, and ice fish on 630 acres of Lake. Wildlife, such as golden-winged warblers, sparrows, and finches, can often be seen amongst shrubby areas within the park.

3. Presque Isle State Park

Presque Isle State Park is an expansive peninsula that juts into Lake Erie. It offers 13 sandy beaches, lagoons, a lighthouse, plenty of hiking trails and activities, concert spaces, and stunning vistas.



There are numerous boating and swimming opportunities, while kayaking is particularly favored in the lagoons.

Visitors can take advantage of numerous amenities at the park, including beaches that provide waves for surf swimming. Lyons Beach (commonly referred to as Beach #6) is ideal for swimmers and those wanting to play sand volleyball; another fantastic beach is Budny Beach which features a beach house with changing areas and restrooms for an enjoyable beach experience.

4. Poe Valley State Park

Poe Valley State Park lies deep within Bald Eagle State Forest in southeastern Centre County and is one of Pennsylvania's most breathtaking state parks. Surrounded by seemingly endless forests is Poe Lake - known for both warm water and cold water fishing activities - making for an idyllic scene.

Trout are regularly introduced into Lake Powell for stocking during spring. Other popular game fish include catfish, pickerel, sunfish, and perch.

State Park campground provides one camping space with 45 RV-ready sites; 27 offer 50-amp electrical hookups.

5. Harvey's Lake

Harvey's Lake in Luzerne County has long been known as an idyllic summer resort. Visitors can go fishing and boating there, but Harvey's Lake also makes for an excellent recreational fishing spot.

Harvey's Lake was an active resort during the early 20th century, featuring Hanson's Amusement Park, Sandy Beach, and even a drive-in movie theater.

Harvey's Lake has experienced a recent economic boost and population surge; however, it remains far less active than it was decades ago.

6. Beltzville State Park

Beltzville State Park in Carbon County offers an ideal place to spend quality summer time, featuring a picturesque lake filled with fishing, swimming, and boating opportunities.

Hike 15 miles of trails that provide an opportunity to explore forests and fields by the Lake, visit an old quarry from the 1700s, and Wild Creek Falls.

Recently, DCNR's park's beach and picnic pavilions have become overcrowded. To address this problem, they are installing gates on some access roads and barriers to restrict parking spaces.

7. Mt. Gretna Lake & Beach

Mount Gretna Lake & Beach is a favorite family destination from Memorial Day through Labor Day, offering activities suitable for all ages. Certified lifeguards are on duty throughout its duration; changing facilities, free parking, and picnic areas are also provided at this facility.

Gene Otto III owns and runs Eastern Enterprises, a local company responsible for creating this 10-acre Lake by damming Conewago Creek. To this day, a Victorian-era bathhouse remains featuring high dive, floating docks and sandy beach areas.
