Derek Denmead (aka "Deke") first discovered his love of cooking Southern cuisine while teaching in Sandersville, Georgia. There, he learned how to prepare collard greens and appreciate authentic barbecue. Now Denmead and his wife Jackie McBeth have transformed their hobby into an impressive local barbecue sensation, beloved in Germantown, Manayunk, and Mt Airy neighborhoods and catering special events via their food truck.
Deke's offers Western Carolina-style pulled pork, St. Louis-style spare ribs, and Texas-style brisket. Meats come with classic sides such as Maggie's mac-n-cheese and baked beans to complete each dish, all finished off by Deke's sauce for that signature finishing touch! All their dishes are seasoned with custom dry rub and smoked for up to 14 hours for optimal results.
I love that this place is family-owned and operated. When I walk inside, you can tell immediately. Service is excellent, the atmosphere inviting, and the food beyond delicious!
