Cape May Lighthouse Full Moon Climbs


During the Lighthouse Full Moon Climbs, which take place on specific dates throughout the year, guests can climb the 199 original cast-iron spiral staircase steps to the top of the lighthouse. As they ascend, they are treated to the breathtaking view of the surrounding area, which is illuminated by the enchanting light of the full moon. To enhance the climbing experience further, interpretive panels are strategically placed along the climb, providing visitors with intriguing historical information about the lighthouse and its keepers.

Cape May MAC also offers the Stairway to the Stars climb on new moon evenings for those who prefer stargazing. As guests go up to the Watch Gallery at the top, they are greeted with unobstructed night sky views. With the moon's brightness at its minimal, stars and constellations can be observed with utmost clarity. Binoculars are even allowed during this particular climb, enhancing the stargazing experience even more.

Visitors planning to participate in the 2024 nighttime climbs can mark their calendars for the designated dates. Lighthouse Full Moon Climbs will be available on April 23, May 23, June 21, July 21, August 19, September 17, October 17, and November 15. Alternatively, those interested in Stairway to the Stars can join the climb on May 7, June 6, July 5, August 2, September 2, October 2, and November 1. Ticket prices for the upgrades are $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 3-12, and they can be conveniently purchased on-site.

The Cape May Lighthouse, which serves as an active aid to navigation, is located within the picturesque Cape May Point State Park.
