What to Do During a Day Trip to the Wildwoods in New Jersey

Rides

If you're a thrill-seeker and want to get a thrill, consider riding a water ride. If you're in the mood for speed, take your pick from the many attractions along the Wildwood Boardwalk. A ride at this water park can be a thrilling way to end your day. Wildwood has some of the best riders in the state, and there are also many kids' rides.

While at Wildwood, consider taking the tramcar to the Doo Wop Experience. This small museum features artifacts from the 1950s and 1960s. The ride will give you a sense of the era while soaking up the ambiance. You can also visit the Doo Wop Experience and Neon Sign Garden, which showcases Wildwood's famous generation of culture. Make sure to hop off the tramcar at any stops along the route.

Beaches

The five-mile-long FREE beaches of Wildwood are among the best in the state. They're the widest, cleanest, and safest in New Jersey, with plenty of space to enjoy your favorite beach activities. Try the Adventurer Oceanfront Inn, which has two-room suites near the beach, if you're looking for accommodations.

Bird-Watching

For more peaceful beach time, head to Island State Park. This park is located on a narrow barrier island shaped by Mother Nature. Multiple storms carved out the landscape and left their mark. This is one of the last islands of this type in the state. During the peak season, this park can get crowded. To avoid this, plan your trip early in the day. Wildwood's famous beach is included on the Travel Channel's "America's Best Beaches" list.

Boardwalk

If you plan a day trip to the Wildwoods, consider visiting the boardwalk. This 2-mile stretch of beach is home to world-class amusement parks, two water parks, and six roller coasters. You can ride everything from roller coasters to monster truck rides and enjoy traditional boardwalk fare. You can spend the whole day here or even stay overnight and explore the area.

The boardwalk is a great place to walk and ride bikes early in the morning to take in the sun reflecting on the water. You can also visit the aquarium, which has a small collection of sea creatures. And if you're feeling adventurous, you can hop on one of the iconic yellow and blue tram cars hauling visitors up and down the Wildwood Boardwalk since 1949. You'll hear the recorded "Watch the tram car, please!" as you ride the 2-mile path. Bikes are allowed on the boardwalk before noon every day during the boardwalk.

There are three water parks on the Wildwoods Boardwalk. The Morey's Piers Waterpark is one of the most popular, offering several thrilling slides. It is also home to an interactive three-level Camp Kid Tastrophe, a family fountain pool, a lazy river, and cabanas.

You can check out the Splash Zone, located on the boardwalk. Splash Zone has twenty water attractions, including the Giant Bucket, Abyss, and Terminator slide. Other attractions include the Zoe Zone, an area for toddlers and babies, and the Flow House, a restaurant and drinks facility. You can also take your family on a simulated surfing wave.

Parasailing

There's nothing like the wind blowing your hair back and forth in the sky! Hang Loose Parasail in Wildwood offers the perfect place to try parasailing. The company provides a high-flying experience that feels like a hot air balloon or swinging in the park.

Atlantic Parasail has been operating for over twenty-five years. The company is also the leader of South Jersey dolphin watching tours and has received numerous awards for its quality and safety. You might even have an up-close encounter with dolphins during this tour!

Surfing

A day trip to the Wildwoods would be incomplete without surfing at Dog Beach! The beach is home to a 25-foot fire hydrant. North Wildwood's swell action is similar to Surfing at the beach in Cape May, N.J. There's even a designated surfing beach near the Convention Center. You can also surf near Aster Road, popular in the 1960s. These beaches have been improved significantly over the years but still offer sound waves. Other famous surfing beaches in North Wildwood include Seventh Avenue, Eighth Avenue, and Twenty-Fifth Avenue.

Visiting Cape May

Another popular destination near the Wildwoods is Cape May, NJ, where you can find many fine restaurants and a thriving art scene. This city is more suited to sophisticates, while Wildwood is more family-friendly. A family day trip would combine both Cape May. If you are traveling without children, it would be wise to plan a trip to Cape May and Wildwoods to see which one suits your family best.
