Philadelphia, PA - The first Friday in December and Dar's Steaks added to my day of highs and lows, twists and turns. I ended up in Jersey. Ending up in North Jersey always throws my brain into hyper grandioso cheesesteak eating planning mode.
Dar's Cheesesteak Review
I ultimately realize I just want to get home, and very few people care about my North Jersey cheesesteak reviews. But, since I had to pay the $5 Bridge toll anyway, I decided to find a New Jersey place.
Dar of Dar's Steaks is very active on Instagram. He posts some good stuff and is a good follow. So off to Dar's Steaks.
According to Google Maps, I would get there relatively close to closing, so I called. Sidebar - the young woman that answered the phone and runs the front counter is marvelous.
They were open, I was going to get there in plenty of time, and I like to look at the menu, so I decided to order when I got there.
Dar's Steak is on what I can only assume to be the main drag in Haddon Twp, which was all lit up for the holidays. It was a very festive drive to Dar's.
There is no parking, but I found a spot on the street right in front of Dar's charming storefront. Inside they have nice decor, but I wish I could see the grill.
I guess it's like poke Bowl ordering. You pick your roll, 3 choices, traditional, seated, or gluten-free. Then you pick your meat, beef, or chicken. I may be missing a cheese, but definitely: American, provolone, or Dar made Whiz.
I ordered the beef Cheesesteak with Dar made Wiz, fried onions, and portobello mushrooms. The sign out front said; World's Best Cheesesteaks. If you follow me, you know that high expectations usually don't work out.
My first impression was, the cheesesteak looked a little small. But, when I picked a piece of meat off, it was very tender and flavorful.
The seeded row looked very good, but we had a significant roll blowout. I don't know about the Whiz, but it was way too runny for my liking, and I wish it was thicker and stuck to the meat.
The young girl running the front counter was amazing. So, I love some stuff about Dar's and dislike some stuff about Dar's. Let leave it at that!
