Philadelphia, PA - This was a short But long day of cheesesteaks. Our last Cheesesteak put us in a horrible mood. Workhorse Brewing was open, which was our ultimate goal, so when I called Workhorse Brewing to see if they were open, I asked the young man where I should get a cheesesteak?
Franzone's Pizzeria, Bridgeport, PA.
He said, 'my favorite place in the area, Franzone's Pizzeria.' I called Franzone's and asked if they had a special cheesesteak? They did, and I ordered it.
It turns out they have two specialty steaks and a steak Zep combo. Also, their regular steaks come in two sizes, while their specialty steaks come in one size.
In addition to all of that, they have award-winning sauce. I guess I need to start asking more questions or looking at menus online before ordering.
I don't think it would have made a difference in this case, but note to self for future reference. The two exceptional steaks are the DeJohn special and the Franzone's Fabulous Super.
We ordered the DeJohn special and headed on over to Workhorse Brewing Co. The DeJohn special comes with melted cheese, mushrooms, onions and sauce, award-winning sauce.
I was skeptical about this Cheesesteak when I unwrapped it; the sauce was on top. I prefer my sauce mixed in with the rest of the ingredients but did make a mental note that this sauce was good.
I wish my mushrooms spent more time on the grill getting to know the meat but the fried onions with stringy, which I do like. It was a pretty good roll, and the meat was pretty tasty as well.
But the Cheesesteak needed a more loving grill person. At Workhorse Brewing, we were greeted in the parking lot by a sign with many rules, but the people and beer were charming.
