- It's the first Saturday of June, and I ended up at Philadelphia International Airport, close enough to lunchtime. The traffic on Southbound I-95 was backed up, so I decided to find a place in Media to get a cheesesteak.
Philadelphia Cheesesteak Adventures Apollo Pizza Review
Apollo Pizza opens early, so that's my destination, and I was able to park right in front of the Apollo on State Street, where I meet up with an interesting mix of kids, parents, dogs, shoppers, and bicyclists.
Apollo Pizza is a traditional pizza shop, with a mostly take-out customer base and no-tables inside; however, they did have a counter along the wall and in front of the window. The menu says they are the 4-time winner of something, and they were busy talking a decent amount of phone orders coming while I waited.
This place has several Cheeesteak options to choose from, including a Special Cheesesteak, Cheesesteak Royal, and the new Mega Cheesesteak. The Mega Cheesesteak has bacon and Russian dressing on it, so I opted for the Cheesesteak Royal. It came with fried onions, mushrooms, peppers, and sauce and pizza cheese melted on top with a toasted roll and the right amount of meat.
The extras and sauce added a lot of delicious flavors and juiciness, a lot of cheese melted on top. Overall, I was delighted with my choice.
