Philadelphia, PA – East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District (EPABID) brings the holiday spirit to South Philadelphia with its annual Deck The Ave celebration. From Small Business Saturday on November 25 to the end of the holiday season, families and visitors can enjoy various festive events, entertainment, shopping, and more.
The festivities will kick off with the beloved Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at The Singing Fountain (East Passyunk Avenue and Tasker Street) on Wednesday, November 29, from 5 – 7 pm. Santa Claus himself will lead the tree-lighting ceremony. At the same time, guests are treated to celebratory sounds of student singers from Fanny Jackson Coppin School, Quaker City String Band, and a new holiday singalong led by Hire Musicians LLC featuring singers from the Union League Voices. The massive 14 ft. tree is adorned with vibrant 20,000 LED lights that will illuminate the holiday music in the surrounding area.
Families can also bring their camera for photos with Santa at no cost at various times throughout Deck The Ave, including Wednesday, November 29; Sunday, December 3; Thursday, December 14; Saturday, December 16; and Sunday, December 17. This year’s celebration also includes a Hanukkah Menorah Lighting at sundown on Thursday, December 7, hosted by South Philadelphia Shtiebel, as well as a Letters to Santa drop-off box located at The Singing Fountain starting after the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Wednesday, November 29.
Shoppers can take advantage of East Passyunk Avenue’s Punch Card, which offers a prize raffle for a gift certificate when ten punches have been received from participating businesses between November 25 and January 1. Plus, don’t miss out on Nice Things Handmade’s 13th Annual Ornament Show, showcasing more than 50 local artists beginning Saturday, November 18, through Friday, January 12.
The celebration will conclude with East Passyunk Avenue’s Second Annual Hot Chocolate Crawl, where guests can enjoy hot cocoa and boozy-alternative chocolate creations at numerous local restaurants, bars, and cafés (Saturday, December 9).
