Philadelphia, PAThe Attic Youth Center’s 25th Anniversary Gala: - The Attic Youth Center’s 25th Anniversary Gala: “Once Upon a Time” is going to be held Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Crystal Tea Room in Center City, Philadelphia. This years event is going to commemorate the 25th anniversary of The Attic Youth Center, with proceeds going to The Attic to offer on-going high-quality events and services to Philadelphia’s LGBTQ youth. The evening is going to recognize The Attic with a evening meal, drinks, entertainment, and dancing.


Celebrity Guest Dominique Jackson and model from the ground-breaking tv show Pose will be The Attic's special guest. Some other distinguished guests include six-time Emmy-award winning actor and comedy writer Bruce Vilanch. The program is going to be hosted by NBC10 journalist Miguel Martinez-Valle as well as the presentation of three awards:

  • “OK2BU Role Model Award”: Dominique Jackson, renowned actress and model, for setting an example of excellence for LGBTQ youth
  • Founders Visionary Award”: John Taylor, for exceptional support and collaboration
  • “Outstanding Alumni Award”: Dena Underwood, local vocalist and pianist, for leadership, loyalty, and integrity

In 1993, Executive Director Carrie Jacobs launched The Attic to help support LGBTQ youth. The group met up inside th “attic” of Voyage House, a Philadelphia-based social service organization. During the past 25 years, more than 20,000 youth and young adults have stepped through The Attic doors and discovered family.  The Attic has come to be one of the biggest, nationally known, youth organizations in the United States concerning LGBTQ youth. 

“We are proud to be celebrating 25 years of The Attic. Our work has allowed for thousands of LGBTQ youth's stories to be told, to be shared, and most importantly, to exist.” says Carrie Jacobs, PhD, Executive Director of The Attic. “To mark this milestone, we are honoring Dominique Jackson with The Attic’s ‘OK2BU Role Model Award,’ being presented to someone who serves as an empowering role model whose story impacts the lives of youth around the country.”
