- I sure wouldn’t blame Eagles fans for thinking that after Sunday’s rout against the Falcons. Hurts was cool and composed, finishing with 264 yards passing, 62 yards rushing, and three touchdowns. One of those scoring tosses went to DeVonta Smith, who fended off critics by being the Eagles leading receiver in catches and yards on Sunday. Defensively, the Eagles looked very strong against an anemic Falcons offense. Overall, it was a pretty perfect start for the Nick Sirianni era in Philly.
Eagles Vs. 49ers Prediction 2021
This week looks to be a much tougher challenge, however, as the Eagles will play their home opener against the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers are coming off a road win against the Lions, winning 41-33, though they had a healthy lead for much of the game. Both veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and rookie Trey Lance received snaps under center, and both looked poised and dangerous. This is a 49ers team that is only two years removed from a Super Bowl berth.
The big key in this game for the Eagles will be putting up points and capitalizing on their opportunities to score. The offense did everything right but also was able to sit in cruise control for most of the second half. They’ll definitely need to play 100% for four quarters in this one, and I’m interested to see how they fare.
Defensively for the Eagles, they just need to replicate what they did last time. Pressure is the name of the game, and if they can rattle the quarterback, good things will happen. This means the Birds have to keep up with receivers Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, who are both burners and could torch Philly deep if they aren’t careful. If the Eagles can avoid the big play and keep things in front of them, then they have a good chance to get some stops and maybe some turnovers.
I think this will be a really good game, and the Eagles will pull it out for the home fans: Final score: Eagles - 28. 49ers - 25.
