Philadelphia, PA - It all began more than 100 years ago when Salvatore and Christina Marra came to America. With a great entrepreneurial spirit, the Marra's started their Italian American restaurant in 1927 in South Philadelphia.
Marra's Italian in South Philly with Former Eagles Player Jarrid Williams
Today many generations later, Marra's, located at 1734 E Passyunk Ave Philadelphia, Pa, is still thriving. Offensive tackle Jarrid Williams who plays with the Eagles, and I popped into Marra's for dinner after a 4-hour stint looking for a place for him to live. We were fortunate to be seated in the personable Danielle Cardullo's section. She introduced us to her Dad, Chef Rob D'Adamo, a 3rd generation owner.
Marra's food is old-school Italian, has large portions, and is reasonably priced. These dishes were all very good. Mozzarella Fritta Fresh mozzarella cheese is hand-breaded, lightly fried, and served with marinara sauce. $11.00 The Margherita Pizza was made with Fresh mozzarella cheese and fresh basil.
Honestly, it surprised me how good it was. $12.50 Jarrid had never tried eggplant, yet his favorite aunt loves eggplant, so he was willing to try the Eggplant Rollatini stuffed with ricotta cheese, topped with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. $14.00 We also ate the Lightly breaded Chicken Parmigiana, golden fried, topped with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. $20.50 Even though we were stuffed and had doggy bags to go, we shared some decadent, deliciously moist chocolate cake, which is what dreams were made of.
