PhillyBite10PHILADELPHIA - America's oldest candy shop is bringing local paranormal encounters to life through chocolate. Earlier this year, Old City's Shane Confectionery asked Philadelphians to submit their real-life ghost stories. Now, the historic shop has transformed those legends into the highly anticipated "Haunted Philadelphia Halloween Box."

Shane Confectionery Turns Real Philly Ghost Stories into a Limited-Edition Halloween Box

With only 125 boxes produced for the 2026 season, pre-orders are currently open online, and in-store pick-ups officially begin today, October 5.

Inside the Haunted Philadelphia Box

Each black-and-silver box is designed as a complete, immersive tasting experience. Inside, customers will find 14 confections—two each of seven distinct flavors inspired by local hauntings. While the full flavor lineup remains a secret until customers open their boxes, the confectionery has revealed one standout piece: a Sparkling Champagne Pâté de Fruit. Crafted in honor of a phantom party in a former hotel, the confection blends prosecco and popping sugar for a sticky, crackling texture reminiscent of Turkish delight.

To set the mood, the collection includes a beeswax ghost candle crafted by the Philadelphia Bee Co. and an illustrated zine detailing the history and legends behind each chocolate. True to Shane Confectionery's dedication to historical accuracy, the zine even includes a bibliography for those looking to research the hauntings further.

The shop suggests a specific tasting ritual: turn off the lights, light the ghost candle, and read the stories aloud while sharing the paired chocolates.

A-La-Carte Spooky Treats and Seasonal Ice Cream

For those who miss out on the 125 limited-edition boxes, individual pieces from the Haunted Philadelphia collection are available in Shane's chocolate case for custom assortments while supplies last.

The historic shop at 110 Market Street is also fully stocked with its broader spooky season lineup. Visitors can pick up returning favorites like the Peanut Butter Praline SEPTA Rats, Cinnamon and Chili Ghost Bon Bons, Galvani's Electric Frogs, Memento Mori Chocolate Medallions, Mr. Pumpkin Chocolate Figures, and Chocolate-Dipped Honeycomb Candy.

Next door at 116 Market Street, sister shop The Franklin Fountain is serving up a complementary fall menu to pair with the chocolates. The seasonal ice cream lineup includes Apple Pie Ice Cream, Caramel Apple Pie Shakes, Hot Cider, Caramel Apple Floats, and the Great Pumpkin Sundae.

Looking ahead, Shane Confectionery is already gathering local paranormal encounters for next year's collection. Philadelphians with a real ghost story to share can currently submit their experiences via the shop's online submission form for consideration in the 2027 box.
