Philadelphia, PA - High Street on Market owners Ellen Yin and Eli Kulp announced they will be relocating from their original location at 308 Market Street. The move is a direct result of increasing rent over the past few years.
High Street in Old City Will Close, Temporarily
High Street in Old City has been located at 308 Market Street for 16 years now, first as Fork: etc. and then as High Street on Market in 2013. The Market will officially close on Saturday, September 12, 2020, almost seven years after it was opened.
To celebrate and thank the customers, the Market will offer up some of their greatest hits as well as a few specials during the last week of service starting on September 6.
During the week, guests can enjoy High Street’’s most beloved sandwiches, including the Pastrami on Rye and The Best Grilled Cheese Ever, as well as its fan-favorite the Angry Crab Spaghetti.
Over the weekend, the restaurant’s signature egg sandwiches, including The Forager and The Hickory Town, will also make a comeback.
On the last day of service, September 12, the restaurant will offer cupcakes from the High Street Bakery on a first-come, first-served basis.
High Street on Market New Location Reveal
While the new location has yet to be revealed. High Street on Market has come up with a fun way to share its new location, with a little help from Willy Wonka and Chris Curtin from Éclat Chocolate.
Who will be making one hundred chocolate bars for sale on Friday, September 11, which will reveal the restaurant’s new address?
Each chocolate bars will feature a small surprise, with top prizes being a free year of High Street’s famous bread, from the restaurant’s brand new bread subscription program, and a $50 gift card to the new High Street location.
Co-owned by restauranteur Ellen Yin and Chef-Owner Eli Kulp, High Street earned a glowing “Three Bells: Excellent” review from The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Craig LaBan, and both Chef Kulp and Pastry Chef Samantha Kincaid was named among Food & Wine’s “Best New Chefs.” Executive Chef Jon Nodler was a semi-finalist for the James Beard Award for “Rising Star Chef” in 2015. The restaurant was named “Restaurant of the Year” in 2014 by The Inquirer and Bon Appetit named it the number two restaurant in the country in their annual “America’s Best New Restaurants” issue. Likewise, Travel + Leisure named High Street one of the best new restaurants in the world in 2015.
