Philadelphia, PA—On a beautiful night in Philadelphia, East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District held its annual Up on a Roof "The Chefs of Passyunk Ave" event. Overlooking a sparkling skyline, the Bok rooftop bar hosted a carnival of tastes and aromas.
Bok Bar Rooftop Bar—Up in the clouds, this wonderful evening in the sky was filled with creations from some of the most highly touted chefs in the area. We started sampling and found some excellent appetizers, and we were happy to be surrounded by such talent.
I started with an "Eggplant meatball" by Brigantessa / Le Virtu. They had a tender feel and an almost sweet taste accompanied by a sauce that I'm sure is a trade secret. Walking a bit further down the rooftop, tucked in the corner, was P'unk Burger with its Chimichurri beef sliders with smoked Gouda cheese. It was the perfect burger, and in slider form, you can try four to make sure the first one was as Gouda as the last. Also, See. Philadelphia Top Must-Attend Foodie Events
Apart from my previous lousy pun, I walked a bit further to Tre Scalini with a white bean and greens over shrimp. I believe this Mediterranean-style dish was spot on in its simplicity and flavor. The citrus notes pointed perfectly at the shrimp—hats off to them.
Townsend brought the noise with its whole roasted stuffed pig. They knew what city they were in and delivered. It was an intense amount of "Yum"." Kudos. Tender and seasoned just right, this dish was on point.
Cantina los Caballitos kicked in with its spicy, sharp Empanadas.PhillyBite Magazine founder told me they were his favorite, but not to tell his mother.
A new take on an Ice cream sandwich, Capogiro Gelateria's con brioche in dark chocolate was rich and smooth. It was a "different from the norm" kind of treat.
The last one, and a good one, was Barcelona presenting an out-of-this-world Octopus. Pulpo (octopus) is a very tricky dish to perfect, so I bow to the Magicians at Barcelona for giving me the first one out of 17 that I truly enjoyed.
