"Mexico City cuisine is a blend of that city’s Aztec origins, Spanish history, and cosmopolitan present. Chef Piña takes the basic elements of its cuisine – corn, beans, and chilies – to make both traditional and modern flavors. For example, guacamole is an Aztec all-star, while slow-cooked (pork) carnitas and chicken tinga draw on the import of pigs and chickens by the Spaniards, and modern Mexico City’s bold flavors." Café Ynez, is offering back-to-back restaurant week deals to celebrate both Vegan Restaurant Week, taking place April 28 to May 4, and Mexican Restaurant Week, taking place May 5 to May 11.

Vegan Restaurant Week with a sizzling platter of Veggie Fajitas — featuring tofu, red and green bell peppers, poblano peppers, cauliflower, white onions, guacamole, and soft corn tortillas ($10). The dish pairs perfectly with a blood orange margarita or glass of horchata and the best part? Cafe Ynez is BYOT — bring your own tequila!

Mexican Restaurant Week, sponsored by the Mexican Cultural Center. For just $20, guests can enjoy a three course, prix fixe menu that includes Sopa del Dia, Mole Pollo Enchiladas, and flan. The soup of the day will change daily based on the availability of seasonal ingredients and the enchiladas are topped with Piña’s signature mole. The caramel-covered flan is a traditional rendition of this south-of-the border dessert staple.

Stop by for all-day dining. Bring a bottle of tequila and enjoy one of our many mixers,  a BYOB! Grab a horchata or coffee, and take a pastry to go. Stop in for tacos and burritos, eggs and chilaquiles, soups and salads, entrees of salmon, chicken, and beef, and much more.

After putting in time in well-regarded kitchens Morimoto, Tinto, Parc and Pod, Piña became the chef de cuisine at Jet Wine Bar in 2010, which led to his current position at Ynez, also owned by restaurateurs Jill Weber and Evan Malone. At this all-day cafe on the border of the Graduate Hospital and Point Breeze neighborhoods, Piña offers specialties like his hearty carnitas cemita and pollo mole, dishes inspired by his family’s cooking. In his free time, Piña is an avid collector of rock-and-roll vinyl.
