Philadelphia, PAPhilly Day Trips - Nearly 80% of Americans plan on taking a road trip this summer with almost 20% opting for a single-day road trip within 100 miles of home, PR Newswire reveals. Although Philadelphia offers no shortage of things to see and do, sometimes you just need some time away to explore new horizons. Fortunately, there’s a host of epic road trips from Philadelphia that you can do in just one day.

Jersey Shore, New Jersey

Just 54 miles outside of Philadelphia, it takes around one hour and ten minutes to get to the Jersey Shore by car. And, once you arrive, you have a host of charming and lively shore towns to choose from. Asbury Park, for example, was made famous by Bruce Springsteen and is now known as “Brooklyn on the beach”. Here, you can visit the Silverball Museum Arcade and have fun playing the classic pinball machines and arcade games dating back to the 1930s. When you’re ready for a bite to eat, head to Asbury Park’s bustling boardwalk where there’s no shortage of delicious food options.

New York City, New York

New York City is a quick drive from Philadelphia (96 miles which takes around 1 hour 40 minutes to do). Simply head through the Lincoln Tunnel and spend the day exploring the best the Big Apple has to offer. Before you set off, it’s important your car’s ready for your road trip. So, get it serviced — battery checks, tire rotations, oil changes can all help prevent breakdowns. Keep in mind, if your car does break down on the road, it may need to be towed to a repair shop. Check if your insurance policy covers towing costs, otherwise you’ll need to pay the costs yourself (usually around $100). Hopefully, however, you’ll reach NYC without any hiccups. Once you arrive, you can wander around Central Park: 693 acres of beautiful gardens, forests, and meadows featuring plenty of fountains, sculptures, and bridges. And, a visit to NYC isn’t complete without pizza. Scarr’s Pizza, for example, serves excellent pizza in a retro setting.

Hershey, Pennsylvania

Home to Hershey chocolate headquarters, Hershey (just east of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania’s state capital) is a great family road trip destination. It’s about 95 miles from Philadelphia and takes around one hour 47 minutes to get there by car. Hershey’s Chocolate World is a must-visit, especially if you have kids. The free Chocolate Tour Ride gives you the opportunity to see how chocolate is made, while you can even create your own candy bar — you can choose the ingredients and even design the wrapper. Alternatively, you can visit the ZooAmerica North American Wildlife Park, which spans a whopping eleven acres and boasts over 200 animals. Wolves, lizards, deer, ferrets, bears, and bats are just some of the amazing species you can see here.

Jersey Shore, NYC, and Hershey, Pennsylvania are just some of the best single-day road trips from Philadelphia. No matter which destination you choose, you’re bound to have a memorable time.
