Union SteaksPhiladelphia, PA - With 961st different cheesesteak under my belt over the last four years, and it was a good day to be The Cheesesteak guy. Darby flew in from California and her dad Joe drove from Colorado just to have a Cheesesteak with me. That is my version of their story, and they may have been in town for family matters. Joe grew up in Northeast Philly and went to college in Colorado, and settled there.

But Joe missed his cheesesteaks in Colorado. He has been disappointed with the cheesesteaks he's gotten on his last few visits to Philadelphia. On my drive, they wanted to be guest eaters to 1,000 different cheesesteaks eaten over the previous four years.

I was feeling the pressure. For my drive to 1,000, I have been eating new/different cheesesteaks with my guest eaters. I didn't want to disappoint Joe with a lousy cheesesteak. I made an executive decision, and I told them to meet me at Charlie's Roast Pork.

I was confident they would get a good Cheesesteak there, and I would smuggle in an outside cheesesteak to continue my drive to 1,000.

I stopped at Union Steaks in Chester, PA, to get my 961st different cheesesteak in the last 4 years. Union steaks is under the Commodore Barry Bridge in view of Subaru Park, home of your Philadelphia Union MLS soccer team.

I went to Union Steaks with low expectations. Union Steaks is take-out only, and they have some interesting offerings on a smallish menu, including a Salmon Cheesesteak. I was pleasantly surprised at the weight of my cheesesteak the first time I picked it up.

It came on a big bready roll. It had a perfect amount of good meat, and the meat had a nice chop. I would have liked more cheese. The fried onions were good but probably could have added more to the cheesesteak. At $10, it was a solid cheesesteak.
