PHILADELPHIA — Drivers along Route 13 in West Philadelphia now face fines after a 60-day warning period for newly installed automated speed cameras ended Friday.
Ticketing went live at 12:01 AM on Oct. 30 for cameras at 11 locations along the corridor, which includes stretches of Baltimore Avenue, University Avenue, Girard Avenue, Ridge Avenue, and nearby streets. The cameras have issued only warnings since late August.
Violators traveling 11 mph or more over the posted speed limit (typically 25 mph in these areas) will receive tickets, according to reports. Fines start at a minimum of $100 for drivers going 11–19 mph over the limit, rise to $125 for 20–29 mph over, and reach $150 for 30 mph or more over the limit. No points are assessed on the driver's license, as these are civil violations.
The Philadelphia Parking Authority operates the cameras as part of the city's traffic safety efforts. Locations include multiple blocks of Baltimore Avenue (eastbound and westbound), South University Avenue, North 38th Street, and others in West and North Philadelphia.
