PHILADELPHIA, PA – November 5, 2025 – Philadelphia's highly anticipated commemoration of the United States Marine Corps' 250th anniversary is set for a significant location change, now taking center stage in the historic Old City district. The Marine Corps 250 Commemoration, hosted by Homecoming 250 Navy Marine Corps (Homecoming 250®), will unite with The Tun Legacy Foundation's popular Marine Corps Birthday Block Party for an unforgettable celebration on Monday, November 10th.
Originally slated for Independence Hall, the joint event will now take place on Second Street between Market and Chestnut Streets, beginning at 10:30 a.m. This new location promises to immerse attendees in the vibrant atmosphere of Old City, just steps away from where the Marine Corps was traditionally founded at Tun Tavern.
The commemoration program will be a fitting tribute to a quarter-millennium of Marine Corps history. It will feature inspiring remarks from prominent military and civic leaders, reflecting on the Corps' enduring legacy and future. A highlight of the morning will be a traditional Marine Corps birthday cake cutting ceremony, a cherished tradition held in coordination with the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation's "50 State Cake Cutting" initiative. This synchronized event will see similar cake cuttings unfold nationwide, uniting Marine Corps communities across all 50 states.
Following the formal commemoration, attendees are invited to enjoy a slice of birthday cake and stay for the energetic Marine Corps Birthday Block Party, which kicks off at 11:30 a.m. The block party will transform Second Street into a festive hub, complete with live music, a variety of food trucks, additional guest speakers, and more entertainment, ensuring a lively celebration for all ages.
Homecoming 250® is hosting a series of events throughout November 10th to mark the Corps' milestone. Media planning to cover these historic events are requested to fill out a Media Credential Form by Friday, November 7th. Photos from related events will be available.
This combined celebration on Second Street offers a unique opportunity for Philadelphians and visitors alike to honor the United States Marine Corps' 250th birthday at a location intimately tied to its foundational history, promising a day filled with pride, reflection, and festivity.
