FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa. — Drivers in Greene Township should prepare for a weekend detour later this month.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that an upcoming railroad crossing replacement project will require the full closure of a portion of Route 997 (Cumberland Highway) between Route 433 and Route 11.
Weather permitting, the closure will take effect beginning at 6:00 PM on Friday, November 13, 2026. The road is scheduled to remain fully closed throughout the weekend to allow contractors to remove and replace the existing crossing, and is expected to reopen by 3:00 PM on Monday, November 16.
While the street is closed, drivers will be redirected. Signs will guide traffic along a detour using Route 433 and Route 11.
PennDOT recommends that travelers allow extra time for weekend trips through Greene Township and stay alert on the detour. The construction schedule may change if weather conditions worsen.
