CHERRY HILL, NJ — The final "island" in the Garden State is officially disappearing. Darden Restaurants announced on February 3, 2026, that it is retiring the Bahama Breeze brand nationwide. For New Jersey, this means the permanent closure of the Cherry Hill location, the very last of the chain's presence in the state.
New Jersey’s Last Island Closes: Cherry Hill Bahama Breeze Set for Final Farewell
The restaurant, a prominent fixture at the Cherry Hill Mall, will officially cease operations on April 5, 2026.
The End of the Road in New Jersey
This closure marks the final chapter for Bahama Breeze in New Jersey. The state saw a significant shift in May 2025 when Darden abruptly shuttered four other underperforming locations across the state. At that time, the Cherry Hill site was spared, becoming the brand's sole survivor in the region.
However, with Darden’s latest decision to wind down the brand entirely, Cherry Hill was not among the locations selected for conversion into another Darden concept. Instead, it joins the list of 14 sites nationwide that will be shuttered permanently this spring.
What This Means for Local Diners
Located at 2000 Route 38, the Cherry Hill Bahama Breeze has been a local favorite for its vibrant atmosphere, live music, and Caribbean-inspired menu. Positioned between other Darden-owned favorites like Seasons 52 and Eddie V’s Prime Seafood, its departure leaves a notable vacancy in the Cherry Hill Mall’s dining landscape.
Focusing on the People
Darden Restaurants has emphasized that its top priority during this transition is the well-being of the Cherry Hill team. The company’s support strategy includes:
-
Career Placement: Working to relocate as many staff members as possible to other roles within the Darden family, including nearby Olive Garden or Yard House locations.
-
Transition Assistance: Providing resources for team members affected by the April shutdown.
"The primary focus will continue to be on supporting team members, including placing as many as possible in roles within the Darden portfolio." — Darden Restaurants News Release
Final Call for an Island Getaway
Fans of the brand’s signature jerk chicken and Bahamaritas have until Sunday, April 5, 2026, to enjoy one last meal at the Cherry Hill location. After that date, the Caribbean-themed era in New Jersey will officially come to an end.
