UPPER DARBY, PA – Pica's Restaurant, a beloved institution in Upper Darby, has announced it will be closing its doors in the summer of 2025, ending a nearly 70-year run of serving the community. The news was shared in a heartfelt message to customers, expressing both sadness and gratitude.
"After nearly 70 wonderful years of serving the Upper Darby community, it is with heavy hearts that we announce that Pica's Restaurant, Upper Darby will be closing in the summer of 2025," the Pica family wrote.
The restaurant, famed for its Pizza, has been a cornerstone of the Upper Darby dining scene since its move from its original West Philadelphia location. Founded by Frank Pica, Sr., the Upper Darby location was later led by Frank Pica, Jr., and is currently run by the third generation of the family.
The announcement emphasized the deep connection Pica's has fostered with its patrons over the decades. "Pica's Restaurant, Upper Darby, has been a gathering place, where families have come together, friendships have blossomed, and countless memories have been made. You have been more than just customers to us; you are family," the statement read.
While the news marks the end of an era for the Upper Darby location, the Pica family reassured customers that the West Chester location will remain open. Furthermore, they revealed plans for the future. "We are excited to share that we are taking this time to plan for a new and smaller location in the Delaware County area that will allow us to continue serving you with the same love and dedication," they announced.
A specific closing date for the Upper Darby restaurant has not yet been set, but the family promised to keep customers informed. In the meantime, gift cards purchased from the Upper Darby location will be honored there until the closure and will continue to be valid at the West Chester restaurant.
The closing of Pica's in Upper Darby represents a significant loss for the community, signifying the end of a long-standing local tradition. The Pica family expressed their profound thanks: "Thank you for the many beautiful years in Upper Darby. We will cherish them always."
