Lou Bird's, owned and operated by Norris Jordan and Debbie Jordan in August 2016, opened on the corner of 20th and Lombard Streets at the location formerly called Meritage. The restaurant/bar, named after the Jordans' 16-year-old daughter Lexi was opened in August 2016 on the corner of 20th and Lombard Streets, the location formerly known as Meritage. It followed the success of their first restaurant, The Happy Rooster, located at 16th Street and Sansom Streets, Philadelphia. The Jordans wanted their second restaurant to be an affordable dining option that matched the chic surroundings of the Rittenhouse area.
Before opening Lou Bird's, the Jordans gutted and redesigned the interior of the building from scratch. The Jordans completely renovated the restaurant with a new kitchen and updated dining area. They removed the drywall to reveal the beautiful brickwork of the original building, dating back to 1915. Accent pieces included reclaimed wood from the Divine Lorraine Hotel and antique fixtures.
Lou Bird's can accommodate 115 diners for dinner on Sunday through Saturday, between the dining area, bar, and outdoor seating. The bar is excellent for watching the big games and catching up with friends. Happy Hour runs from 4 to 6. Lou Bird's serves brunch every Saturday and Sunday. The pavilion was built during the pandemic and is now permanently attached to the restaurant. Diners can enjoy the fresh weather, the Rittenhouse atmosphere, and the beautiful air. There's enough room to accommodate up to forty people in the pavilion and another 20 on the sidewalk. Guests can choose to dine inside or outside.
