CheesesteaksPhiladelphia, PA - Sophie’s BBQ, Ardmore, PA. 962nd different cheesesteak in the last four years. A whole table of guest eaters and the United States Merchant Marine Academy class of 1986 micro reunion. Donnie Dombrowski and his tribe drove up from Virginia. Joe and Peg Martino made the trek down from Doylestown with Anthony in tow.

This was a wonderful micro reunion put together by Donnie. Sophie’s is a nice little place half a block off the mainline. Outside and inside seating. Lovely BBQ decor out front for group photos. I would like to start with the food was delicious. The brisket was very, very, very good. It had the perfect combination of fat, char, and seasoning.

I had the baked beans and coleslaw 2 days later, and they were still outstanding. They each had their own unique zing and flavor. Several of us got the brisket cheesesteak. This is where the debate begins. As I mentioned above, the brisket was delicious, juicy, and flavorful. The brisket and roll worked very well together.

My cheese was either melted very well, missing in action, or a little of both. Thus the debate is excellent brisket wasted in a cheesesteak? Follow up argument is, does the cheese sauce get wasted in a brisket cheesesteak. It is safe to assume that Sophie makes a delicious cheese sauce. Unfortunately, mine got lost in the brisket cheesesteak.

We were at a tough table, but our server, Reagan, was pleasant, professional, and helpful. Thank you, Reagan. I had great memories of this meal until I wrote my review and looked at my receipt, Holy Mackerel! I know it is the mainline, COVID, and delicious meals but $3.75 for a glass of Sophie’s Seasonal Lemonade? Sophie’s BYOB and there is no cork/bottle charge, so that helps.
