Philadelphia, PA - City Council is set to pass a number of bills, referred to as the “Black Workers Matter Economic Recovery Package,” in an effort to provide job security to Philadelphia hospitality workers laid off during the coronavirus pandemic.
Philadelphia Hospitality Workers Bill
The set of three bills is expected to help the more than 12,000 regional hospitality workers, in the hotel and foodservice industry.
The set of bills will cover a range of job security issues that have recently come up during the pandemic or expected to have an impact on works.
The first bill would require hospitality employers to recall workers who were laid-off, according to seniority, instead of hiring new workers when employers begin reopening.
The preceding bills would require hotels and foodservice contractors in the stadiums and Philadelphia Airport to keep workers on staff if the employer, or contract, changes hands.
