Philadelphia, PA - The Center City District (CCD) has begun construction on a brand-new coffee kiosk at the southern part of Dilworth Park near 15th Street. Following final approval by the city's Historical Commission and Art Commission. The coffee kiosk is going to open sometime in April.
New Starbucks Coffee Kiosk Coming to Dilworth Park
The 620-square-foot build was designed by DAS Architects together with Olin Partners, the original landscape architect for the park. The brand-new building mirrors the current, larger café at the north end of the plaza and will be situated in a semi-circular space presently occupied by a seating area and landscaping. Dilworth Park Café Brûlée Catering will manage the coffee stand, as part of Brûlée’s franchise and will be branded as a Starbucks offering Starbucks services and products.
The coffee shop is going to have a green roofing system and draped on three sides with green walled trellises, and the area will be complement with upgraded landscaping. The design will function as a walk-up stand without indoor customer seating.
Five brand-new trees will be grown to replace five that were taken out to allow for the foundations built. Further landscaping designed by Olin Partners will undoubtedly complement the area all around the building with flowering plants, shrubs, and grasses most notably oakleaf hydrangea, cherry laurel, wood spurge, and dogwood, making it greener and lusher than it was before.
