PHILADELPHIA PA — The School Reform Commission (SRC) will hold a special meeting to consider four new charter applications on February 8th at 4 p.m. The meeting will take place at the School District of Philadelphia building, in the auditorium.
The SRC will allow time for the public to speak before the vote. Individuals hoping to speak should call the Office of the School Reform Commission at 215-400-4010 by 4 p.m. on February 7th. The public comment will be limited to 24 speakers, and slots will be filled on a first come, first served basis.
This special meeting is the final step in the SRC’s new charter application process, which included a comprehensive, rigorous review of the four active new charter applications. All applications for the 2016-2017 cycle were filed with the SRC in November 2016. Each of the four active applications received two public hearings as well as a detailed evaluation report. The SRC public hearings for the new charter applications resulted in a total of approximately 16 hours of public testimony. The new charter application narratives submitted can be viewed on the School District’s website. The Charter Schools Office's new charter application evaluation reports will be posted on its website approximately one week before the SRC's February 8th public meeting.
The Pennsylvania Charter School Law requires a public hearing on each application within 45 days after the charter authorizer receives the application, and a vote on each application no later than 75 days after the first public hearing, unless otherwise agreed to by the parties.
