HUDA Philly Review: Must-Try Sandwiches on Sourdough & Milk Buns in Rittenhouse Square

House-Made Bread: The Foundation of Flavor

What sets HUDA apart is its dedication to freshly baked bread. Chef Sichel has perfected his recipes for sourdough bread and milk buns, and these form the foundation of every incredible sandwich. The sourdough offers a delightful tang and chewy texture, while the milk buns are soft, fluffy, and slightly sweet – the perfect complement to the bold flavors within.

Globally Inspired Sandwiches: A Culinary Adventure

HUDA's menu is a testament to Chef Sichel's culinary creativity. You won't find your typical deli fare here. Instead, prepare for a journey around the world with each bite. I recently tried two of their signature sandwiches, and they were both phenomenal:

  • Hamachi Lox: This sandwich was a revelation. The delicate Hamachi lox, paired with nori cream cheese and pickled cucumbers, all nestled within that amazing house-baked grilled sourdough, was a symphony of flavors and textures. It's a must-try for any seafood lover and a great brunch option.
  • Grilled Swordfish: Equally impressive was the grilled swordfish sandwich. The perfectly cooked fish, topped with a vibrant Napa cabbage slaw and a flavorful kimchi tartar sauce, was a delightful explosion of taste. And that house-made milk bun? Pure perfection. It is no wonder it is considered one of the best sandwiches in Philly.

More Than Just Sandwiches:

While the sandwiches are undoubtedly the star of the show, HUDA's menu offers other tempting options as well. Keep an eye out for their rotating selection of salads and sides, all made with the same commitment to fresh, high-quality ingredients. This is a great place for lunch or dinner.

From Takeout to Dine-In:

HUDA initially launched as a delivery and takeout operation due to the pandemic, but they now offer indoor seating as well. The space, formerly occupied by Hai Street, is intimate and inviting, making it a great spot to enjoy your meal. They have some of the best salads in the city.

The Verdict:

HUDA is a welcome addition to the Philadelphia food scene. Chef Sichel's passion for quality ingredients and his innovative approach to sandwich making shine through in every bite. Whether you're a Rittenhouse local or just visiting the city, HUDA is a must-try. I'm already planning my next visit to explore more of their globally inspired creations. This is a great fast casual spot in the city.
