Spanky's, Newfoundland, PA. Philadelphia, PA - Carole, and I were celebrating her birthday in the Poconos, ziplining, and camping, not the crushed velvet and champagne glass bathtub kind of getaway.

Spanky's Cheesesteaks In The Poconos

Since we were celebrating Carole's birthday. I purposely did not pack Philadelphia Cheesesteak Adventure apparel and promised myself not to order a cheesesteak at all.

When we stopped for dinner at The Promised Land Inn, I did not order the cheesesteak. Even though the American wagyu beef cheeseburger made me forget about the cheesesteaks, they did sound amazing.

Saturday, we stopped for a late breakfast and early lunch, and again I was not going to get a Cheesesteak. However, when I looked on the menu, Spanky was making some big claims.

We talked it out, and Carole let me order the cheesesteak, I jumped at the chance to "build your own Cheesesteak." and wound up creating my own beef cheesesteak with mushrooms, sauteed onions, American cheese, and Spanky's signature steak sauce.

My meat option was corn beef, which I found a bit intriguing and almost logical. When my cheesesteak arrived, it came with "really" good looking french fries, but still, I was here for the cheesesteak.

When I picked it up, I was thrilled to found a fair amount of meat hiding inside the roll, and the mushrooms with sauteed onions added a lot of flavors.  But it was Spanky's signature steak sauce that stole the show.

Now to the all-important bottom bite, where all the good stuff was hiding, it was fantastic. Unfortunately, it didn't make up for a whole lot of roll and dry meat on top. Well, at least I got to order a cheesesteak on Carole's Poconos Adventure.
