In Philly more and more local restaurants are following the no-tip model, and while diners can feel good about giving their business to establishments that pay their workers a living wage, they also get to skip out on one of the frustrations of dining out. Below are a few of Philly's No-Tip restaurants.
Philly's No Tips Allowed Restaurants:
- Tipping the staff at Girard Brasserie and Bruncherie in the city’s Fishtown neighborhood is discouraged, but the staff isn’t complaining. That’s because chef/owner Brian Oliveira and Cristian Mora pay them $13 an hour, an unheard of sum for servers, as well as paid time off, paid sick days and health benefits. 300 E. Girard Avenue, (267) 457-2486, girardongirard.com
- Also getting in on the no-tipping action is William Street Common, a new addition to the University City dining and drinking scene. The indoor beer garden serves as a prototype for a new type of restaurant service that owner Avrim Hornick of Morgan’s Pier fame hopes to pursue. Here, tipping is not allowed. Servers work a consistent schedule and receive $15 per hour, receiving additional funds based on their performance. 3900 Chestnut Street, (215) 397-4693, williamstreetcommon.com
