Whip Up a Batch of Love: Cocoa-Kissed Red Velvet Pancakes

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Baking Cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup reduced-fat buttermilk or low-fat milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon red food coloring
  • Heart-shaped pancake cutters or cookie cutters (optional)
  • Optional garnishes: butter, powdered sugar, maple syrup, and fresh berries

Instructions:

  1. Combine the dry ingredients. Whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Mix the wet ingredients. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, buttermilk, melted butter, vanilla extract, and red food coloring until well combined.
  3. Combine wet and dry ingredients. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay. Let the batter rest for 5 minutes to allow the gluten to relax, resulting in more tender pancakes.
