Friends of Independence - The Friends of Independence was created in 1972 and is the first Friends group in the National Park Service. Over our long history we have purchased or acquired over 1,000 artifacts for the park’s permanent collections, fund-raised for large public spaces in the park and provided educational tours and programs to visitors and locals alike.
The Twilight Tours are free evening walking tours that occur from mid-June through Labor Day. Each tour is led by a volunteer guide who has been trained to give an exceptional, one of a kind tour. Tours leave from the Ranger Desk at the Independence Visitor Center which is located at 6th and Market Streets. Tours start at 6:00 pm and last approximately an hour.
