Philadelphia, PA - Saloon 151, West Chester, PA. Wednesday afternoon and still eating and drinking my way through West Chester with Amigo Dan. With no college students and COVID-19 quarantine restrictions still in place, you would think parking would be relatively easy for two intelligent people.
West Chester's Saloon 151 Cheesesteaks
But no, we made parking a much bigger project than it needed to be and may have backed down a one-way street to get a decent parking spot.
Anyway, we finally settled in at Saloon 151, which has taken full advantage of Gay Street being closed. They took over most of their end of Gay St.
From memory, they have at least 15 tables spread out in the street and on the sidewalk. The best part is they have a big tree and have hung umbrellas up among their lights, so they have a lot of shade.
Our server Jill was terrific and very tolerant of us. Do not be alarmed by the uniformed and armed people walking around. They appeared to be working at the courthouse and just going out for lunch.
The other people walking around aren't 'wave returners.' At least not to the 2 guys sitting in front of Saloon 151 drinking beer.
We loved Jill and let her pick our cheesesteak. She soon arrived with a cheesesteak with fried onions, sauteed mushrooms, and provolone cheese.
The roll was substandard, but we cover that in the video. The meat was good, but there was not much of it. The fried onions and sauteed mushrooms were delicious but took over the cheesesteak.
In the end, it didn't have enough meat or too many fried onions and mushrooms problem? I think it's not enough meat. With all of that said, it's not a bad bar cheesesteak.
