Philadelphia, PA - After their third consecutive win, the Philadelphia Eagles are in the driver’s seat of the NFC East. Perhaps a more fitting name would be the NFC Least, but regardless, a home playoff game is certainly in the cards for the Birds coming into January.
Philly knocked off the Cowboys 17-9 with a combination of effective offense, solid defense, and some very fortunate moments helping contribute. Dallas shot themselves in the foot on several key errors, and the Eagles did enough to capitalize and give the home crowd something to cheer for. The Eagles control their destiny at this point. Win and in…. and how hard can a win against the 4-11 Giants be?
Harder than you’d expect. These two rivals duked it out a few weeks ago in primetime, with Philly pulling off a come-from-behind overtime victory. There’s nothing the Giants would want to do more than to topple the Eagles and knock them out of playoff contention. They certainly played with plenty of heart last week in a shootout victory against the Washington Redskins. The Redskins take on Dallas and could do a major favor if they hand the Cowboys a loss. A Cowboys loss will clinch an Eagles playoff berth no matter what.
I think Philly will get the job done against the Giants. I just think this team is streaking at the right time, and they will have a wave of momentum behind them. The offense is starting to figure things out, and if the defense can be competent at the least, then this team could be dangerous. I think rookie quarterback Daniel Jones just won’t be able to keep up, and New York will fall behind and out of the running. The Eagles will make their way as the final entrant in the NFC Playoff picture by topping Big Blue.
Final Score: Eagles, 35. Giants, 17.
